Virulence factors and quorum sensing as targets of new therapeutic options by plant-derived compounds against bacterial infections caused by human and animal pathogens

چکیده

The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and hospital-acquired bacterial infection has become rampant due to antibiotic overuse. Virulence factors are secondary growth important in their pathogenesis, therefore, new antimicrobial therapies inhibit virulence becoming strategies against resistance. Here, we focus on anti-virulence that act through anti-quorum sensing the subsequent clearance by compounds, especially active herbal extracts. These quorum systems based toxins, biofilms, efflux pumps, bioactive compounds isolated from medicinal plants can treat pathologies. Ideally, bacteria. Hence, inhibition could reduce pathogenesis. Furthermore, be developed as novel treatments for infection. Therefore, this narrative review aims discuss acting preserved targets treating plant-derived compounds. Keywords: resistance, pathogens, phytochemicals, system, factors.

Quorum Sensing in Microbial Virulence

Cell-to cell communication occurs via a signaling pathway referred to as quorum sensing. There are four main types of these systems according to the chemical nature of signal molecules used by microorganisms to elicit expression of target genes in response to environmental stimuli or need of microbial communities. Type I system acts by using acyl homoserine lactones as signals to trigger the ex...

Plant innate immunity against human bacterial pathogens

Certain human bacterial pathogens such as the enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica are not proven to be plant pathogens yet. Nonetheless, under certain conditions they can survive on, penetrate into, and colonize internal plant tissues causing serious food borne disease outbreaks. In this review, we highlight current understanding on the molecular mechanisms of plant respo...
